Just last week, two tracks from Playboi Carti's self-titled debut album appeared on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. "Magnolia" and the Lil Uzi Vert collab "wokeuplikethis" heralded the 21-year-old Atlanta native's arrival at a new level within the rap game.
He did his first New York show at the intimate LES boutique The Good Company four years ago. "I performed in here," he remembers. "I was like 17. How many people was here? It was thick! And ever since then I just kept coming back."
For the lastest episode of "Shop Talk" Carti returns to 97 Allen Street to get a custom airbrushed T-shirt courtesy of Arvid Logan aka Muckman. (If you're trying to cop a custom Muckman design of your own, hit him up right here: https://shop.letterracer.com/products/custom-airbrush-tee-by-muckman and he'll ship to you.)
Watching the creative process in action inspires Carti to ask Muckman for an on-the-spot airbrushing lesson. The blunt may have provided some inspiration as well. Carti is not a fan of such high-tech smoking devices as dabs and vapes.
"I have a bong," he says. "I use my bong as a fuckin' vase. It's too extra. It defeats the purpose, like, 'Damn—you tryin' to get that high? Fuck.'" Peep the visuals up top
